Each page is rendered to a JPG image at your chosen DPI, right in your browser with pdf.js. A single-page PDF downloads as one image; a multi-page PDF comes back as a numbered ZIP. Very large pages are capped to stay inside your browser's canvas limits, and the result tells you the resolution it actually used.

This converts whole pages into pictures, so the result is an image, not searchable text. It is not the tool for pulling the embedded photos out of a PDF.

PDF to JPG — Frequently Asked Questions

This tool renders each whole page of your PDF into a single JPG, with the text and layout baked into the picture. That is different from extracting the embedded photos out of a PDF at their original resolution, which is a separate job called image extraction. If you want a snapshot of each page to post, print, or attach, you are in the right place. If you want the source photos pulled out, you need an image extractor instead.

DPI (dots per inch) sets how detailed each image is. Higher DPI captures more detail but grows the file quickly, roughly with the square of the number, so 300 DPI is about four times the size of 150.

72 DPI — Web

Smallest files, fastest to render. Fine for on-screen viewing, social posts, and web embeds.

150 DPI — Screen

The versatile default. Sharp on any screen and acceptable for casual printing.

300 DPI — Print

True print quality that captures fine detail. Larger files. Use it when the image will be printed.

600 DPI — Max

Maximum detail for archival scans or heavy zooming. Files are large and render slowly. Very large pages, and phones, are capped a little lower to stay within the browser's canvas limits.

Most people converting to JPG are trying to fit something through an upload box. Job portals, exam boards, visa forms, and government sites routinely cap uploads between 100KB and 500KB, and email adds roughly 30 percent encoding overhead on top of whatever you attach. JPEG is the right format for that fight: it throws away detail your eye barely notices on a photographic page and lands far smaller than a lossless format ever could.

Drop the DPI first

Converting at 72 DPI produces by far the smallest images. It is the single biggest lever you have here.

Compress the PDF first

If a page is a dense photo scan, shrinking the source PDF helps more than lowering the DPI a second time.

JPEG was built for photographs, where colour shifts gradually across an image. Text is the opposite: a hard black edge against white. The compressor cannot represent that cleanly, so it softens the edge and leaves faint grey rings around letters, an artefact called ringing. On a scanned photo or a magazine page you will never notice. On a page of small type, a spreadsheet, or a CAD drawing, you will. More DPI hides it because each letter gets more pixels to work with, but it never disappears entirely. That is the honest reason to reach for the PNG converter when the page is mostly text or line art.

No. JPEG has no alpha channel at all, so a JPG can never be transparent; any see-through area comes out solid white. PNG is the format that supports transparency, though note that converting a PDF page still renders it on a white background, so neither format will give you a cut-out from a normal page.

Yes, if you keep re-encoding it. Every JPEG save throws away a little more detail, and repeated edit-and-save cycles visibly degrade the image, which is known as generation loss. The file this tool gives you is a single encode from the original page, so it is as good as JPEG gets here.
