Each page is re-encoded as a JPEG image and rebuilt into a new PDF, all in your browser with pdf.js and jsPDF. It is lossy, so it is ideal for scanned and image-heavy files and can cut them 40 to 80 percent.

Higher strength means a smaller file with softer images, and how much smaller depends entirely on the PDF, which is why the slider sets the strength rather than a promised size.

Light (around 20%)

About 140 DPI at high JPEG quality. Pages stay close to the original and text remains crisp, so the reduction is modest.

Medium (around 50%)

The balanced default: roughly 125 DPI at mid quality. Images soften slightly, text stays comfortably readable, and image-heavy files usually shrink a lot.

Strong (around 85%)

Close to the 100 DPI floor at low quality, for the smallest file. Images look noticeably softer but scanned text is still legible. Use it when you have a hard upload limit.
